How to Fart on Command (and Fart Louder)

Whether you want to relieve uncomfortable trapped gas, win a juvenile contest with friends, or simply master a party trick, plenty of people want to know how to fart on command — and how to make it loud. The honest answer is that you can't conjure gas out of nothing, but you can make gas build up, move it toward the exit, and control how it comes out. Here is how to do it, how to make it louder, and how to do it safely. And if you just need a guaranteed, on-demand fart noise right now, you can always fake it with the fart soundboard.

Step 1: Make Sure There's Gas to Work With

Farting on command is much easier when there is already gas in your system. You can encourage that in advance by eating and drinking the right things:

  • Fizzy drinks: carbonated water and soda add gas directly to your gut.
  • Beans, lentils and pulses: the classic gas producers.
  • Cruciferous vegetables: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts.
  • Dairy: especially if you are even slightly lactose intolerant.
  • Swallowed air: chewing gum, drinking through a straw or gulping food adds air too.

For the full breakdown of why these work, see our guide to foods that make you fart. Give it 30 minutes to a few hours and you will have plenty to release.

Step 2: Move the Gas Toward the Exit

Trapped gas often just needs help travelling through your intestines. These positions and movements use gravity and gentle pressure to shift it:

Knees to chest

Lie on your back and hug both knees in toward your chest. This "wind-relieving pose" is a yoga staple for a reason — it compresses the abdomen and helps gas move down and out.

Deep squat

Drop into a full squat with your knees wide. The position straightens the path out and increases abdominal pressure, which is why so many farts arrive when you sit down or crouch.

Twists and a short walk

Gentle torso twists, or simply walking around for a couple of minutes, get the intestines moving and nudge trapped gas along. Light exercise is one of the most reliable ways to free up wind.

Step 3: Release It

Once gas is in position, relax the anal sphincter and gently bear down — the same mild pressure you would use for a normal bowel movement, no more. Relaxing is the key word: tense up and the gas stays put. The combination of a relaxed opening and a small, controlled push is what lets a fart out on demand.

How to Fart Louder

Loudness comes down to three things: the amount of gas, the speed of the release and the tension of the opening. To maximise all three:

  • Build up more gas first — more pressure behind the fart means more volume.
  • Hold it for a moment to let pressure increase, then let go in one push instead of a slow leak.
  • Keep the opening slightly tighter — a tense opening vibrates harder and produces a louder, lower sound.
  • Sit on a hard, reflective surface such as a wooden or leather chair or a bathtub — it bounces the sound back and amplifies it.

This is exactly the physics we explain in why farts make noise. For reference, the loudest examples on our soundboard are the Thunderous Blast and Machine Gun — a good target to aim for.

The Instant Shortcut: Fake It

Sometimes you need a perfect, loud fart at an exact moment and biology won't cooperate. That is what a soundboard is for. Open the fart soundboard, pick the ripper you want and tap — instant, repeatable and as loud as your speaker allows. You can even use the fart timer to schedule one to go off after a set number of minutes for a hands-free, perfectly timed prank.

Do It Safely

Passing gas is healthy and gently encouraging a fart is completely fine — holding gas in for long periods just causes bloating and discomfort. The one rule: never strain hard. Forceful bearing-down can cause discomfort and is a bad idea if you are prone to certain conditions. If you regularly can't pass gas, have severe abdominal pain, or notice a sudden big change in your symptoms, that is a reason to see a doctor — see why do I fart so much and what your farts say about your health for context.

The Bottom Line

You can't make gas from thin air, but you can stack the odds: eat gas-producing foods, use positions that move wind toward the exit, then relax and give a gentle push. For volume, build up pressure and release in one firm burst on a hard surface. And when you need a guaranteed toot on cue, the fart soundboard never lets you down.
